Rafael Pich-Aguilera (Barcelona, 1928-2005) is one of the UIC’s founders. The establishment of the University was made possible originally thanks to a group of parents and professionals concerned about the future education of their children. Pich Aguilera played a central role in the creation of courses in family orientation and the founding of the family association FERT (1971), two initial steps in this grand effort. As a direct result of these developments, the Institute of University Studies (IEU) was founded in 1976. In 1982, it became the INEDE, the institute that served as the UIC’s cocoon until it won official university status in 1997.
The second of six siblings, and the father of sixteen, Pich Aguilera has dedicated his professional life to the promotion of family values, and the provision of courses in family orientation, a field which FERT pioneered. These efforts sealed and demonstrated Aguilera’s tremendous dedication to helping parents achieve quality family education based on a set of criteria and regulations, founded on everlasting values.
Dr. Pich-Aguilera is internationally considered one of the founding fathers of family orientation and is one of the promoters of the Internacional Federation for Family Development (IFFD), which today brings family orientation to other counties.
A Doctor of Textile Design, Pich-Aguilera has been a numerary academic of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Catalunya since 1967, and also participated in the founding of the IESE (1958), serving on its academic board and lending it his professional business expertise.
