Department of Humanities

The Department of Humanities is responsible for the academic organisation of the degree programme in Humanities, the official Master’s degree in Cultural Management and the Postgraduate and Doctorate programmes in Human Sciences.

The department also encompasses a team of professors of Thought and Ethics, who teach subjects which cut across all the degree courses at the University and coordinate, in collaboration with the Faculty of Health Sciences, the modules in Anthropology which feature on the syllabuses for the different courses.

The different branches of the department (philosophy, literature, art, history, geography, etc.) boast widely different lines of research. These include road anthropology, fundamental socio-political philosophy, travel literature and an analysis of spaces in ancient heritage. This research activity, combined with the interminable labour undertaken by staff to revise and improve the material used in class, ensures that the teaching standard is of an extremely high level.

The Department of Humanities attracts graduates, postgraduates and research fellows from a wide range of geographical and academic backgrounds, looking for:

  • A humanistic complement to degrees which are business or science-based.
  • Development of the personal skills needed to work in communication or human relations.
  • Incorporation of an essential area of Journalism Studies.
  • Involvement in the multidisciplinary research into humanities (music and cinema, and literature).
