The UIC has opened a new 4-storey library on the Barcelona campus featuring over 2 kilometres of shelf space and 400 reading places.
Rafael Pich-Aguilera died on Saturday, 26 July 2008, at the age of 80. The recipient of a UIC Honorary Degree, Pich-Aguilera will be remembered as the father of family development at the world level and for the part he played in the creation of the UIC.
The UIC presented its own Youtube channel ( www.youtube.com/uic ) on 11 July 2008, within the framework of the University Council meeting. The UIC is the first private Catalan university to have its own Youtube channel, which enables users to share digital videos on the Internet.
In the coming academic year, the UIC will offer a Master's programme in Family Therapy, which will be the first official programme dealing with this speciality in Spain. The aim of this course, which is designed for psychologists and doctors, is to help give support and counselling to families that are going through difficult times or that are unable to settle conflicts by themselves.
Around thirty people who have been working at the UIC for the past ten years received medals from the Rector with the university's new seal. The awards ceremony was held during the General Meeting of the teaching and administrative staff, where new appointments and new facilities were also announced.
