The main aim of the Language Services at the UIC is to teach English for both academic and professional purposes. This department therefore provides English courses which are designed to satisfy the particular requirements of each study programme and faculty. On graduating from the UIC, the students will need to be able to use English fluently in his or her chosen field and within the prevailing international environment.
The Language Services offers elective General English courses for UIC students who need extra help in order to be able to make the most of the English module included within their course syllabus. These include the possibility of following personalised self-teaching programmes under the direct supervision of a tutor. The Language Services also offers intensive modules of general English.
Because of the importance of languages these days, the Language Services also gives students the chance to study Italian, French and German. Likewise, courses in Catalan and Spanish are offered to students from abroad or other parts of Spain.
The Department of Language Services is responsible for maintaining high linguistic standards in the day to day activities of the university by providing linguistic advice, correction and translation of texts. In order to achieve this end the department has to work very closely with all the other departments in the university.
