Health-related research on molecular, cellular and genetic levels has undergone tremendous growth and development in recent years, and is showing to be absolutely essential for profound understanding of illnesses, as well as for the development of innovative therapeutic treatments. More and more dentists are helping to evolve the field of dental and oral hygiene by participating in basic scientific research endeavours and thereby contributing to improvements in the field of clinical dental care.
The UIC is
glad to be able to promote this kind of scientific research and development in
the fields of dentistry and biomedicine. In accordance with the new structure
for university studies established by the European Area for Higher Education,
the UIC offers an official Master’s course in Basic, Dental and Biomedical
Research, aimed at those who wish to specialise in the fields of dentistry or
biomedicine. After completing the course curriculum, students will be ready to
begin work on their doctoral thesis.
The primary objective of this programme is to provide dental and general health
professionals with a greater degree of knowledge in biological-molecular
research techniques, cell and tissue culture, microbiology, genomics,
immunology, statistics, etc., enabling them to better approach and solve health
problems through research.
Students on this course will participate in scientific conferences and publish
their studies in prestigious journals, thereby establishing themselves as
experts in their field of study and contributing to the ongoing development of
new therapeutic methods and the overall improvement of clinical care. Other
professional options for those who complete the degree involve work in the
development of new industry products; specialised merchandising;
university-level teaching, etc.
