Overseas students of the UIC are strongly urged to enquire about the existence and nature of any bilateral agreement between the government of their country of origin and the Spanish government; these agreements may provide nationals legally residing on Spanish territory with certain benefits, such as that of Spanish social security, which includes the provision of medical attention; failing that, the student in question will have to organise private medical insurance coverage.
If a student is required to pay for medical insurance, they must ask their insurance provider for a list of the clinics and health centres to which they can go for medical attention, as well as enquire about the terms and conditions of their insurance policy.
Students from EU countries should obtain the European Health Insurance Card, which has replaced the E-111 and E-128 documents, before leaving for Spain. This document entitles them to the same medical attention provided to Spanish citizens. However, it should be noted that it can be much more difficult to obtain these documents once abroad.
For further information please consult the CatSalut Guide to Health Care Centres or call 902 111 444.
If they have private medical insurance they can receive attention from any of the private clinics and health centres affiliated to their respective insurance company.
In the case of emergencies, you can phone either 112 or 061 to request an ambulance.
