Dozens of students, administrative staff and teachers visited the stands set up in Passeig de la Fontana on the Barcelona campus on Wednesday, 28 May 2008, to participate in No Tobacco Day. The theme this year is Tobacco-free Youth.
Eztizen Andia Larrea, a student in the Oral Implantology Master's Programme, was awarded second prize in the poster category for the poster she presented at the 12th Conference on Oral Surgery and Implantology organized by the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (SECOM), held on 21-23 May 2008 in Santiago de Compostela.
The UIC will start up its new medical programme in the coming academic year in accordance with the curriculum that was favourably evaluated by the Spanish Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA). The UIC will accept a total of 80 students in the programme with the aim of contributing to the lack of professionals in this field. The final ruling on the curriculum is now in the hands of the Board for University Coordination.
The UIC offered the practical lab class "What Kind of Research Goes on in a Microbiology Lab?" to a group of students at Cardenal SpĂnola School. The aim of the initiative is to make students in secondary and vocational-training school aware of everyday science.
The Rector Trophy was held on a day marked by good weather and fair play between the participants. The novelty this year was the fact that two of the twenty teams competing were made up of women.
