Global Myofascial Physiotherapy. MÉZIÈRÈS METHOD

Presentation

This postgraduate is a course of study founded on the concept of globality developed by Françoise Mézières. The theoretical and practical principles of the notion of corporal unity have since been developed and expanded by the contributions of other specialists and schools such as Struyf-Denys, Ph. Souchard, Piret et Béziers, Gerda Alexander, Ida Rolf, etc., who have all continued to treat the human body from a global and individualised perspective.

Under this approach, physiotherapy works to return balance to the different myofascial chains through individualised work. Physiotherapists in this discipline treat imbalances by looking for the primary cause of the injury by correcting and controlling all the benefits of the treatment session.

Our bodily kinematics are founded on the interactions between different muscular systems, among which the posterior chain plays a crucial role. However, the functioning of the body is the result of many other elements as well, such as genetic, psychobehavioural, visceral and traumatic factors. These, together with our individual daily habits, cause physical alterations and imbalances in muscular chains that then lead to secondary problems.

Physiotherapeutic treatment returns mobility to the articular system in a progressive manner by easing respiration, stretching the affected myofascial chains, avoiding compensations through a global approach, and always calling for the patient’s active participation.

In addition to a therapeutic focus on the vertebral column and other locomotive dysfunctions, this treatment method has both an educational and preventative basis which allows for full rehabilitation of the entire body.
