Presentation

The social and economic development of Western culture has in many ways been made possible by the recognition of the State of Law, and the right to property.

The figure of the notary has played a significant role in the establishment and development of legal security, as have notary officials who collaborate with the notary by preparing documents, assisting clients and suggesting the best possible solution to the case at hand.

It is no surprise, therefore, that on countless occasions, these officials serve as the regular intermediaries between clients (private and professional) and notaries. They bring strong backgrounds and substantial legal training to their work, and, in turn, gain experience that enhances their technical qualifications and strengthens their knowledge of the legal field. Those who have been in the profession for years know that this knowledge is always changing, and the ongoing developments in the discipline of law (particularly private and fiscal law) keep notary officials up-to-date on all recent changes and legal adjustments.

For this reason, those in the notary profession are particularly interested in constantly enhancing their technical-legal training. But there is also a social interest in maintaining the professional qualifications the notary office demands as skilful work benefits the operation of the group as a whole.

In light of this, the School of Notaries of Catalunya and the Faculty of Legal Sciences at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya have joined forces in order to offer a postgraduate programme of study designed specifically for notary officials who wish to continue their education, enhance their professional skills and earn an official degree in their field of work.

The programme is also open to notary candidates who wish to become familiar with the notary practice, as well as students with law degrees who have not yet decided on a career path and who want to learn more about the notary practice, private law or working as a notary official.

The DERNOT postgraduate course joins the academic and professional worlds as its itinerary is based on the labour of its future graduates and class sessions are imparted systematically and designed to be accessible to notary officials. This joint initiative established by the School of Notaries and the UIC is a campus-based postgraduate programme with the levels of academic rigour and quality that characterise both institutions.
