GRC - Research Group in Regulation of Lipid Metabolism in Obesity and Diabetes

 

 

The group, located at UIC Barcelona (Neurolipid Group) is interested in studying the metabolism of lipids that regulate various functions that are key to good brain function.  

 

Specifically, the group studies: 

• The hypothalmic control of thermogenesis, and its implications in terms of obesity. 
• The transportation of AMPA glutamate receptors and the role they play in memory and learning
• The role of the CPt1C protein in the neurodegenerative disease Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia 
• The design of medicines to regulate the lipid metabolism for the treatment of obesity and cancer. 

Over the past ten years the group has published more than 30 articles in high impact indexed articles, defended more than 10 doctoral theses, and made contributions at numerous national and international conferences. The group works closely with other groups both nationally and internationally, which facilitates mobility for its members. The research group has received funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Economics and Competitivity in the Catalan Generalitat, the TV3 Marató Foundation, the Carlos III Healthcare Institute, and also forms part of the Centre for Biomedical Research in a Network (CIBER) on the Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition.
