Research Masters

The Doctorate degree represents the final degree in this discipline and grants recipients the highest level of academic ranking in the field. The degree is also instrumental in securing lecturing and research positions, in accordance with the relevant legislation.

There are currently two ways of earning the Doctorate degree.

Candidates may now be awarded the Doctorate degree by completing an official Master’s, thereby fulfilling the legal requirements and gaining the skills necessary for the elaboration of a doctoral dissertation.

In this case, Doctorate candidates must create and present a dissertation upon completion of the Master’s degree.

The Doctorate degree may also be awarded to those enrolled in Doctorate programmes still in operation, depending on the compatibility with new postgraduate programmes. These Doctorate programmes take two academic years to complete, and require a total of 32 credits: 20 credits from classes in the first year, and 12 from a supervised research project carried out in the second.

The completion of the Doctorate degree also involves the demonstration of research proficiency, a key component for satisfactorily elaborating and defending a doctoral thesis.
