Preventative Health
The susceptibility of individuals to developing some of the
illnesses most prevalent in our society, such as cardiovascular diseases,
cancer or diabetes, is determined by environmental and genetic factors.
Advances in research into genetics are opening new doors in public health.
We can currently identify the people who show a greater
disposition to suffering certain illnesses and we are therefore able to direct
promotion activities aimed at establishing prevention strategies and carrying
out personalised treatments that improve the quality of life for these people
and their families.

Description: To identify the emotional and cognitive impact of genetic
counselling intervention in people with a hereditary risk of breast cancer. The
study, led by the UIC, is being carried out at the Genetic Counselling
Intervention Unit at the Institut Català d’Oncologia in collaboration with
experts in genetics, oncologists and nurses at the centre. It is an
experimental study using repeated measurements.
