Pain is an unpleasant emotional and sensorial experience associated with injury to the tissues and is the most frequent motive for patients seeking medical consultation. Based on this, the research team led by Marian Lorente is working to study the anatomical and physiological mechanisms associated with pain.

Through gaining knowledge in this field, we will be able to improve our approach to surgical issues based on less aggressive and less bloody interventions, thereby improving medical and odontological practice.

New challenges in the process of university teaching and learning that can be categorised as follows: development of the Student Centered Anatomy Teaching (SCAT) methodology; interactive anatomy and human embryology, and contributions to books on embryology and anatomy.
